The Office Effect is the negative impact of work related repetitive stress on the body. Simply put, it encompasses all the aches, pains, injuries, and conditions that result from spending day after day at a desk in front of a computer. As fitness professionals, we have seen hundreds of clients with very similar problems. These include poor posture, neck and back pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Sciatica, spinal disc herniations, and more. The one thing that most of these people had in common was that they spent hours working at their desk or on a laptop.
Short answer…money. Work related Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD’S) are the leading cause of lost-workday injuries and compensation costs in this country. According to California OSHA:
- MSDs each year account for more than $15 to $20 billion in workers’ compensation costs.
- Total costs add up to as much as $60 billion.
The Office Effect also has a tremendous impact on employee morale. It’s very difficult to be enthusiastic, energetic, and efficient at work when they spend much of their workday in pain. In addition to the painful conditions that can occur due to The Office Effect, the very act of sitting for long periods of time with little or no activity can affect metabolism, increase the risk of cancer, and contribute to depression.
We have developed a simple and effective method for identifying pain, identifying the causes of pain, and taking steps to relieve that pain. Our method (The 3 F’s: Feel It. Find It. Fix It.) is empowering, raising awareness of the body and environment while providing the knowledge necessary to permanently relieve pain without turning to pills or other temporary remedies.
We offer a wide range of services designed to help your employees feel, look, and perform better. We know that the wellness needs of every company are very different. So, we encourage our clients to explore our services individually, or package them together for a comprehensive program. Our products and services will maximize the value of any existing wellness program that may already be in place and will provide employees with the tools to work pain free. This is the first step to increasing productivity while decreasing absenteeism and medical costs.
The Office Effect: Easy Solutions for Work-Related Pain, is a revolutionary book that will help your employees relieve pain and correct bad posture. It makes ergonomics, fitness, posture, and stress reduction easy and accessible with a fun, full color, interactive format. The perfect desk companion, it includes over 20 exercises specifically designed to give employees the strength and support they need to work without pain.
The Office Effect Corporate Seminar is a one hour interactive presentation that clearly illustrates the causes and repercussions of The Office Effect. Employees are shown how repetitive stress can damage the body inside and out and how to reduce or eliminate those harmful factors from their daily life. Living with work related pain is tantamount to walking around with a rock in your shoe. Our seminar will teach employees to remove that rock once and for all.
“The anatomy 101 Recap slide and explanation was fabulous!”

Pain relief and proper posture start with correct ergonomics. We will individually work with employees and help them identify and correct improper ergonomics at their workstation. They will also learn how to spot potentially harmful movements that are part of their daily work routine. This type of one-on-one attention has proven extremely effective and many of our clients have seen immediate pain relief.
Exercise is an integral part of achieving long term pain relief and proper posture. We have developed a comprehensive exercise program specifically designed to counteract The Office Effect. Our Office Fitness Class will give employees hands on instruction in order to insure proper form. It is also an effective tool for raising awareness of the body and physical areas of concern.
Our seminar can easily be adapted as a team building exercise. We encourage employees to not only look out for themselves, but for their coworkers as well. Because The Office Effect is so common, everyone can share in the experience of identifying and adjusting harmful repetitive stresses in the workplace, creating a healthier work environment for the entire staff.
We provide quick reference guides to make the journey to a pain free workday even easier. These include:
- The Office Effect Exercise Companion: Our complete exercise program condensed into a two sided laminate. Take it to the gym or keep it in your desk and you will have a comprehensive workout at your fingertips.
- The Office Effect Quick Reference Guide: This extremely accessible laminated guide makes it easy to find your pain, it’s possible causes, and some simple solutions. The reverse side contains simple, economical ergonomic solutions that will make every workstation healthier and more efficient.
- Exercise Bands: Some of our recommended exercises require some resistance and we can supply exercise bands to employees if necessary.
