Proper ergonomics is the first step towards combating The Office Effect. Incorrect ergonomics forces the body to maintain harmful positions and places tremendous stress on the muscles, joints, and spine. For example, a computer monitor that is placed too far away forces the head and neck to move forward. This makes the head up to 4 times heavier placing tremendous strain on the neck muscles. In addition to forward head, poor ergonomics can also lead to rounded lower and upper back, hunched shoulders, and core instability.

- Fixing your ergonomics to allow your spine to maintain its proper S-curve can be as simple as placing a pillow in the small of your back or placing some books under your feet.
- Consider a standing workstation. You'll burn twice as many calories a day!
- Be aware of bad habits such as holding the phone with your shoulder. Get a headset!
