With today's insane pace at the office
coupled with how much technology (laptops, broadband/VPN, PDAs…) has us
tethered to our jobs, we are literally non-stop. This level of intensity makes it easy to get stuck at your
desk for hours on end at the office and even at home. Your metabolism slows, your cholesterol rises, your joints
stiffen, and that's just the beginning.
An
easy way to combat this is to simply get up and move for a few minutes. Here are a few suggestions…
Wiggle, Bounce, and Roll
Sounds silly, we
know, but it works. Just take a
few seconds every couple of hours to stand up, wiggle your whole body, bounce up
and down and roll your joints. It will get
the blood flowing, loosen the muscles and joints and make
you feel like a kid again. It's also a great warm-up before exercising! You'll even burn calories, lower your cholesterol, and prevent heart disease up to 37%. |

Drink Water
You've heard this a million times, well here's number one
million and one. We all know
that water is good for us and most of us will admit that we don't drink enough
of it. Keep a case
of bottled water at your desk. If you don't like the taste, add a
lemon slice or even flavored vitamin drops, whatever it takes to get you to
drink it. It will keep
your muscles from tightening, your joints
lubricated, and it will raise your metabolism, helping your body
function more efficiently. About one fluid ounce of water for every two
pounds of body weight is your goal! |

Find a Way to Relax
Having the
weight of the world on your shoulders is terrible for your posture. Take a deep breath and find
some time, even a moment, to just reset -- at least once a day. Release your tongue from the roof of
your mouth. Go for a
walk outside. Listen to some
music. Call your
spouse or kids, anything to allow your mind and body to take a break from the
stress of the day. |
