Repetitive stress is the silent enemy that is with us at work,
at home, and all points in between. It can be a position or posture that is held for too long such as
slouching at your desk or using your PDA . It can also be a movement that is performed over and over
such as twisting in your chair many times a day, or turning your head hundreds
of times while transcribing. You
may have a headache, backache, sore shoulder, or any number of other conditions
and never realize that they stem from a simple repetitive stress at work or at
home. You're in pain and you don't really know why!
|
Repetitive Movements:
- Turning
your head repeatedly while transcribing
- Rotating
in the same direction to talk to a co-worker
- Using
your mouse with the same hand only
- Excessive
texting
Improper Postures:
- Hunching
over your desk
- Crossing
the same leg
- Slouching
while driving to work
Repetitive stress exists in almost every aspect of our lives. Unfortunately, most people can't even identify a single repetitive stress in
their workplace, let alone in their daily lives. They just keep going through the same routine day after day
without considering the long term consequences. If you let repetitive stresses
chip away at your health, don't
be surprised when your doctor gives you bad news. But it doesn't have to be that way. |
